About the role
Journal of Obstetrics and Gynaecology is currently recruiting for Associate Editors and Editorial Board Members to work with the journal's Editor-in-Chief, Dr Ayman Ewies. The journal is an international, peer-reviewed, open access journal publishing original research and reviews spanning the entire field of obstetrics and gynaecology. The scope of the journal includes general obstetrics and gynaecology, reproductive medicine, gynaecological oncology and breast disease. The role of Associate Editor is a great opportunity for an academic with a strong research background within the scope of the journal, who also has the commitment, drive and ability to help develop the journal. As part of this role, you will be responsible for the oversight and administration of a rigorous and proper peer review process that delivers an agreed amount of content of suitable scope and quality within an agreed publication timeframe. Applicants for the role of Associate Editor must:- Be an obstetrician and/or gynaecologist.
- Have an academic track record.
- Hold a senior position e.g. consultant / senior lecturer / associate professor / professor.
- Previous editorial experience is desirable.
- Handle 2-3 manuscripts per month – invite reviewers, assess reviewer comments and make recommendations on decisions.
- Access and progress manuscripts in the online peer review system twice a week.
- Encourage the submission of articles to the journal through contact to people in your network a minimum of twice per year.
- Invite content and support commission of these annually – e.g. special issue topics, topics for review articles, and opportunities to work with local societies and conferences.
- Raise awareness of the journal to potential authors at relevant conferences attended.
- Submit your own manuscripts to the journal.
- Attend an annual online editorial board meeting and contribute to discussions on journal development.
- Review 1 manuscript per month for the journal.
- Encourage the submission of articles to the journal through contact to people in your network a minimum of twice per year.
- Invite content and support commission of these during the appointed term – e.g. special issue topics, topics for review articles, and opportunities to work with local societies and conferences.
- Raise awareness of the journal to potential authors at relevant conferences attended.
- Submit your own manuscripts to the journal.
- Attend an annual online editorial board meeting and contribute to discussions on journal development.

- A strong commitment to ethical rigour as well as knowledge of the COPE guidelines and commitment to ensure that the journal adheres to strict ethical standards at all times.
- Actively involved in growing and developing your academic networks through conference attendance and experience of networking through social media.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the open access publishing environment.
- A vision and enthusiasm for the continuous development of the journal.
