About the role
Turkish Studies is looking to appoint two Associate Editors to assist the journal’s Editor. The roles will begin in January 2027 and the term of office is three years in the first instance, renewable for additional one year terms by mutual agreement.
Associate Editors will support the Editor in cultivating a network that fosters and supports inclusion, diversity and equity. A key part of the role involves leveraging professional networks and connections to find suitable reviewers for the submissions received by the journal. As part of the Turkish Studies editorial team, the Associate Editors will play a vital role in the publication process and the success of the journal. - Support the Editor to facilitate the smooth operation of the journal.
- Work with the Editor and any fellow Associate Editors to develop the strategy and direction of the journal.
- Oversee the peer review process on selected submissions, including selecting and contacting reviewers, communicating with authors, managing revisions and resubmissions, and making recommendations to the Editor, ensuring that all reviewers and authors uphold the journal’s code of publishing ethics.
- Encourage the submission of manuscripts to the journal from established researchers in the field and from promising new scholars.
- Serve as peer reviewers when requested by fellow Associate Editors or the Editor.
- Help to review and expand the pool of reviewers, in terms of size, topic specialty, and geographical representation.
- Act as an ambassador for the journal, e.g. promoting the journal at conferences.
- Participate in meetings with other members of the Turkish Studies editorial team as required and maintain active correspondence with the team.
- Share emerging research topics from their regions and networks and collaborate with the wider editorial team to envision future special issues, which may include acting as Guest Editors for those issues.
These roles are a great opportunity for academics with a strong research background in Turkish Studies and who have the commitment, drive and ability to help further develop this leading academic journal. The roles come with a modest honorarium and involve dedication, energy and focus. Becoming the Associate Editor of a journal is a rewarding and fulfilling experience where you have the opportunity to draw on and build your own networks, develop and promote the research in the field, and be recognised as a leading figure within the academic community.
Turkish Studies is committed to ensuring diversity, equity and inclusion across the editorial team, Editorial Board, reviewer network and decision making processes, to represent the diverse research community working in this field.
The journal is also recruiting for an Editor to succeed current Editor Prof. Paul Kubicek, who will be stepping down at the end of 2026.
