Culture and Organization

Associate Editors and Media Editor required

Journal cover: Culture and Organization

Deadline 14 August 2026

About the role

Culture and Organization is seeking Associate Editors and Media Editor to join the editorial team.

Associate Editor Role:

Following initial desk review by the Co-Editors in Chief, Associate Editors are responsible for editorial oversight on a selection of submissions. Associate Editors confirm suitability for review, send articles for peer review, and make decisions on papers in conjunction with the reviews received.

Applicants will be comfortable with a variety of critical approaches to qualitative research. We welcome applicants with expertise and interests that broadly engage with critical management studies; organizational inequalities; diversity and inclusion; and critical social theory. We welcome applicants with knowledge of decolonization and Indigenous studies; critical race theory; gender and feminism; embodied, affective and aesthetic knowing; researching and writing differently; and critical historical perspectives.

We are also looking for applicants who are comfortable with papers that engage in cultural and organizational studies using critical ontologies and epistemologies, and a variety of critical methodologies.

The journal is keen to support underrepresented scholars and early career academics, and Associate Editors play a key role in stewarding papers by such authors.

Media Editor Role with Social Media Responsibilities:

Media Editors process submissions to our Media Section, which welcomes shorter pieces (1500-3000 words) that engage with different aspects of media and nontraditional forms of writing. Submissions can for example include film reviews, photographic essays, poetry, embodied forms of writing, and provocative essays.

Applicants should have an interest in different modes of academic writing, creative forms of empirical material, arts-based methodologies, and related ways of doing and presenting research.

The new Media Editor will be working in a team with our current Media Editor, sharing submissions between them. The new Media Editor will also share social media responsibilities with the current Media Editor, promoting papers and activities on our social media platforms.

We encourage applicants from non-anglophone countries and from outside of the UK/Northern Europe.

Benefits:

Joining the editorial team at Culture and Organization is a rewarding, creative, and fulfilling experience where you get insight into the most recent research within the field. It will build your scholarly networks and promote the research that you are passionate about. It is a wonderful opportunity for those looking to gain further expertise in academic publishing.

The appointment will start in August 2026.

About the journal

Journal cover: Culture and Organization

Culture and Organization was founded in 1995 as Studies in Cultures, Organizations and Societies. It represents the intersection of academic disciplines that have developed distinct qualitative, empirical and theoretical vocabularies to research organization, culture and related social phenomena.

Culture and Organization features refereed articles that offer innovative insights and provoke discussion. It particularly offers papers which employ ethnographic, critical and interpretive approaches, as practised in such disciplines as organizational, communication, media and cultural studies, which go beyond description and use data to advance theoretical reflection. The Journal also presents papers which advance our conceptual understanding of organizational phenomena.

Theoretically, Culture and Organization bridges the arts and humanities and the social sciences, and welcomes papers which draw on the disciplinary practices and discourses of philosophy, the performing arts, literary and art criticism and historical analysis, for example, and applies them to the organizational and relevant social arenas.

The journal has a dedicated Feminist Perspectives section to support and highlight feminist theory, methodology and writing, and a Media Section which publishes pieces that are different to the traditional journal article format.

Peer Review Policy
All articles appearing in this Journal have undergone editorial screening and double-anonymized peer review.
