About the role
The Journal of Environmental Education is currently seeking an Editor-in-Chief. We welcome applications from academics with a strong academic or research background in environmental and sustainability education and related areas. This role is an excellent opportunity for someone who has the ambition, commitment, and capacity to continue driving the journal forward, expanding its reach, and fostering a vibrant research community. As part of this role, you will:- Be responsible for the oversight and administration of a rigorous, fair, and timely peer review process that delivers an agreed amount of content of suitable scope and quality within an agreed publication timeframe.
- Work with the Publisher to develop strategies to attract and accelerate growth in high quality and high impact submissions and citations.
- Collaborate closely with the editorial board and reviewers in line with the journal’s development.
- Champion best practices in research integrity, transparency, and reproducibility.
- Promote the journal within the community, build networks across relevant disciplines, and support emerging areas of research.
- Training & support to guide you through your role and the editorial process.
- Online submission and peer review systems that streamline author experience and editor processing.
- Annual reports reflecting on the performance of the journal.
- Annual honorarium to cover any journal-related expenses.
About the journal
Key Skills and Attributes
- Experience in academic publishing and familiarity with all stages of the process.
- The capacity to devote time each week to the role, and to attend training sessions as needed.
- The ability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues, such as associate/secondary editors.
- Strong organizational skills to ensure all submitted manuscripts are considered in a prompt, consistent and professional manner.
- Proficiency with online peer-review management systems, with the confidence to guide and support the editorial team in their use.
- Experience working with and collaborating effectively with independent peer reviewers.
- The ability to read, summarize, and make sound decisions based on independent reviewer reports.
- A commitment to communicating promptly, consistently, and professionally with authors throughout the peer review process.
- A willingness to connect and engage with authors and researchers to commission the highest quality submissions.
- A commitment to engaging promptly and efficiently with Taylor & Francis staff and suppliers to implement necessary processes and improvements.
- A strong commitment to ethical standards and rigour: knowledge of the COPE guidelines and ensuring that the journal adheres to strict ethical standards at all times.
- A willingness to proactively lead the journal’s Editorial Board, including arranging and leading Editorial Board meetings.
- A strong professional reputation within your academic discipline.
- Established personal networks with active involvement in the community, and a desire to continue growing and developing your academic networks through conference attendance and professional use of social media.
- Knowledge of and commitment to the open access publishing environment.
- A clear vision and enthusiasm for the journal’s ongoing development.

- Plans for structure of the Editorial Team and the Editorial Board.
