About the role
Interiors: Design/Architecture/Culture is recruiting an Editor-in-Chief or team of Co-Editors for 2027. Becoming an Editor provides an exciting opportunity for leadership in guiding the journal’s further evolution and development, maintaining standards of publication quality and integrity, and helping to accelerate growth in high quality submissions. Applications will be accepted from individuals or from teams with a track record of collaboration. The Editor/Editors will lead an established but growing team of Associate Editors and will be able to shape the journal’s Editorial Advisory Board and future editorial roles. The responsibilities of the role include: • Shaping the strategic and intellectual direction of the journal • Organizing and managing the editorial team • Managing the peer review process (using the ScholarOne system), including assigning manuscripts to Associate Editors and personally handling some manuscripts • Soliciting article submissions and growing the journal’s database of reviewers • Managing and maintaining an active Editorial Advisory Board • Working closely with the publisher, Taylor & Francis, in journal management, marketing and production The positions will formally begin in January 2027. After selection in 2026, there will be time to transition with the support of the current Editor-in-Chief. The term is open-ended, although it is expected that applicants can commit to a period of three years in the role. Key Skills and Attributes
- Proven experience in academic publishing across the full editorial lifecycle.
- Skill in reading, synthesizing, and making sound editorial decisions based on reviewer reports.
- Willingness to lead and energize the Editorial Board, including organizing and chairing meetings.
- Recognized thought leadership and a strong professional reputation within your academic discipline.
- Expertise for attracting and commissioning high-impact submissions.
- A clear vision and enthusiasm for the journal’s ongoing development.
- A track record of managing submitted manuscripts promptly, consistently, and professionally.
- Proficiency with online peer-review management systems, with the confidence to guide and support the editorial team in their use.
- Proactive engagement with Taylor & Francis staff and suppliers to implement processes and drive improvements.
- Experience collaborating effectively with independent peer reviewers.
- Consistently prompt, professional communication with authors throughout the peer-review process.
- Uncompromising ethical standards; knowledge of COPE guidelines and a commitment to always uphold them.
- Active growth of academic networks through conference participation and professional use of social media.
Application instructions
Applications should include your CV, a Cover Letter and a Vision Statement. Your cover letter should be one page in length and should include a comprehensive overview of your previous experience as an Editor-in-Chief (or similar). Your Vision Statement should be no longer than 500 words and include how you would go about:- Updating the editorial vision and scope of the journal.
- Driving sustainable and timely high-quality submissions, through commissioning and content development, in collaboration with the publisher.
- Recruiting Associate Editors and expanding the Editorial Board.
