About the role
GIScience & Remote Sensing is seeking Editorial Board Members.
We welcome applications from academics with a strong track record in geographic information systems, remote sensing, geocomputation, spatial data mining and geographic environmental modelling.
This is an excellent opportunity for respected subject matter experts who want to contribute to the strategic growth of the journal. In this advisory role, you will support our editorial leadership, act as an ambassador within the global research community, and help shape the journal’s future direction without the day-to-day management of the peer-review pipeline.
In this role, you will:
- Provide strategic advice to the Editor-in-Chief and Publisher on emerging research trends and journal scope.
- Act as a trusted peer reviewer for manuscripts within your field of expertise on an occasional basis.
- Actively promote the journal within your professional networks and represent the title at key events and conferences.
- Support content growth by occasionally submitting your own high-quality work or encouraging colleagues to submit.
- Collaborate on special projects, such as suggesting topics or guest editors for high-impact Special Issues and article collections.
- Participate in annual Editorial Board meetings to discuss performance metrics, indexing, and plans for the journal’s long-term development.

About the journal
GIScience & Remote Sensing is a fully open access journal publishing original, peer-reviewed articles associated with geographic information systems (GIS), remote sensing of the environment (including digital image processing), geocomputation, spatial data mining, and geographic environmental modelling. Papers reflecting both basic and applied research are published.
In support of reproducibility for all kinds of work, the journal requires that data and software used in the analysis be deposited in a repository that complies with the Open + FAIR policies of the COPDESS consortium.

- A commitment to acting as a high-level ambassador for the journal within the wider research community.

Your Cover Letter should be no longer than 500 words and include how you would:
- Act as a peer reviewer and provide constructive feedback.
- Attend Editorial Board meetings and advise the Lead and Supporting Editors on matters such as journal direction, policies, and strategy.
- Suggest potential Guest Advisors or Guest Editors or contributors for article collections or themed issues.
- Promote the journal to potential authors, reviewers, and readers within their professional networks.
- Help to enhance the journal’s reputation and impact in its field.
