About the role
At the heart of the Managing Editor’s role is the oversight and administration of a rigorous and proper peer review process. The peer review process will deliver:
- Research Articles within the Aims & Scope of the Journal
- To an agreed minimum quality threshold
- In an agreed publication timeframe
- In accordance with the Taylor & Francis Editor Code of Conduct, with particular reference to Editorial ethics.
To achieve this, Taylor & Francis provides an online peer review management system and relevant support. Within that online peer review management system, the Managing Editor is responsible for the following activities:
- Regular and confident use of an online peer review management system.
- Ensuring all submitted manuscripts are considered in a prompt, consistent and professional manner.
- Securing at least two independent peer reviews from appropriate experts for all manuscripts. We aim for the review process to be complete within four to six weeks, ideally, so this would entail checking the Peer Review site daily and inviting reviewers within days of the manuscript being assigned to you.
- Ensuring that authors and referees/reviewers adhere to the Journal’s Guidelines on Publishing Ethics to assure the integrity and reputation of the Journal is maintained.
- Reading, summarizing, and basing judgements about acceptance, rejection, or revision on referees’ reports, and communicating this in writing to authors in a professional manner and within a reasonable period.
- Being actively involved in subject communities, identifying emerging research trends, and awareness and understanding of major developments in the publishing industry, such as open research and Open Access.
- Reaching out to Researchers to encourage and support authors in submitting to the Journal.

Energy Sources, Part B: Economics, Planning and Policy serves as a forum for the reporting and investigation of economic and political trends and issues relating to the use of both fossil and alternate fuel sources.
Energy Sources, Part B looks to publish articles that showcase the current uncertainty regarding the prospects of different technology options, and to highlight both current advancements and needs for further research and demonstration.
Energy Sources, Part B welcomes submissions that explore:
- Economics of energy resources
- Technoeconomic analysis and evaluation of energy systems
- Energy market modelling and design of innovative market mechanisms
- Management of energy resources
- Energy system analysis and planning
- Security and reliability of energy supply
- Energy system modelling, simulation and scenario development
- Decentralized energy systems and smart grids
- Analysis and modelling of energy consumer and producer behavior
- Energy and climate policy tools
- Design, evaluation and analysis of energy and climate policy impacts
- Sustainable energy cities and communities
In view of the:
- Continuing increases in worldwide energy costs and diminishing accessibility of fossil energy resources
- Interactions between energy costs and availability and the goal of decarbonization
- Examination of aspects of technology diffusion and its role in the transition towards a low-carbon economy
Key Skills and Attributes
Ready to apply? Here are the skills and attributes we are looking for in a successful applicant:
- Experience in academic publishing and familiarity with all stages of the process.
- The capacity to devote 5-10 hours each week to the role, and to attend Editorial Board meetings and training sessions as needed.
- The ability to ensure all submitted manuscripts are considered in a prompt, consistent and professional manner.
- The ability to handle 20-30 manuscripts at any given time.
- The ability to confidently use an online peer review management system.
- The ability to read, summarize, and make decisions based on independent reviewer reports.
- A commitment to communicating promptly, consistently, and professionally with authors during the peer review process, as well as with Taylor & Francis staff and suppliers to implement necessary processes and improvements.
- A strong commitment to ethical rigour as well as knowledge of the COPE guidelines and commitment to ensure that the journal adheres to strict ethical standards at all times.
- A proven track record as a key opinion leader and known figure within your academic discipline.
- Actively involved in growing and developing your academic networks through conference attendance and experience of networking through social media.
- A vision and enthusiasm for the continuous development of the journal.
