Journal of Public Child Welfare is looking to expand its pool of Peer Reviewers. The journal is particularly in need of reviewers with experience in the area of international child welfare. The journal welcomes all applicants, and especially encourages those experts located outside the United States. The peer review process is a fundamental part of research publishing. It’s a way of ensuring only articles of the highest quality that contribute meaningfully to the field are published. The process involves both the journal editors and independent expert reviewers, who evaluate the submitted articles. Peer Reviewers are intrinsic to the publication process and upholding this role is a wonderful opportunity to boost your own networks, sharpen your expertise, and contribute immensely to a journal and the child welfare area.

Decisions made in the practice of child welfare have lifelong effects on children and their entire families which in turn affects every facet of society. To effectively practice in this vital field, social workers, psychologists, counselors, juvenile court judges, attorneys, and other child welfare professionals need to stay informed about the latest findings and important issues in public child welfare. To answer this crucial need, the Journal of Public Child Welfare provides a broad forum for theory-based and applied research in child welfare. Rather than limit itself to primarily private agencies, this essential journal provides the quality research and comprehensive information that child welfare professionals and public agencies need most. The legal mandate of vital public child welfare programs is safety, permanence, and child and family well-being. With this in mind, the Journal of Public Child Welfare presents quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods theory-based or applied research, cogent reviews of the literature, policy analyses, and program evaluation articles about child welfare. Key Skills and Attributes

Successful applicants for the Peer Review role will:
  • Respond to peer review invitations and complete reviews according to requested turnaround times.
  • Critically evaluate the validity, completeness, accuracy, and appropriateness of a submission according to journal guidelines.
  • Uphold rigorous journal standards by identifying critical flaws and/or unethical research practices.
  • Remain professional and courteous throughout the peer review process
  • Be expected to review a minimum of 3 manuscripts per year.
